Man Gets 40 Years In Child Exploitation Case
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — U.S. District Judge Richard Haik has handed down two 20-year prison sentences to a 22-year-old man who pleaded guilty to child exploitation charges.
The Advocate reports Daniel James Broussard was sentenced on Monday.
Broussard entered a guilty plea in September to two counts of attempting to coerce a minor child to engage in criminal sexual acts, an offense that carries a sentence of 10 years to life.
In a plea agreement, Broussard admitted to having had 100 sexual encounters with at least 35 minors on a webcam, including at least four teenage girls from the Lafayette area.
Haik said he hoped Broussard's sentence, two consecutive 20-year sentences and a lifetime of supervised release, would make people think twice before committing crimes like this.
