KENNER, La. (AP) — A Jefferson Parish grand jury has indicted a man accused of killing a Kenner couple in their bedroom as their newborn child slept in their bed.

News outlets report that 28-year-old Shawn Barnett was indicted Thursday on two counts of second-degree murder following the slayings of 28-year-old Dawn Scott and 31-year-old Raynell Kimbrough, who were shot to death in their apartment on April 4.

The couple's 2-week-old daughter was in bed with them at the time and was not hurt. Scott's 10-year-old and 2-year-old sons were also in the home.

Barnett was arrested a month later. Police say the Avondale man was an acquaintance of the family and was known to stay with them.

Barnett was also indicted on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.
