Travelers from Louisiana into Texas are facing significant delays due to an emergency closure of I-10 West in Beaumont. The Beaumont Police Department announced the closure after discovering a "substantial crack" on I-10 at the Washington Boulevard overpass.

UPDATE:

I-10 West has reopened at Washington Ave in Beaumont, TX.

ORIGINAL STORY:

According to the Beaumont Police, the crack has necessitated the closure of the highway's southbound lanes toward Houston. Additionally, vehicles are prohibited from passing under the Washington overpass. All traffic on Washington is being diverted either north or south on the I-10 service roads, where officers are actively directing traffic.

Detour Details:

- Westbound I-10 Traffic: Vehicles approaching from the west side of I-10 near Golden Corral will be directed south (right) onto the service road.
- Eastbound Washington Traffic: Vehicles traveling west on Washington from the east side of I-10, near the Shell gas station, will be diverted north (right) on the I-10 service road toward Sam’s.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) confirmed the situation through a Facebook post, stating that contractors are "working diligently" on emergency repairs. The closure will remain in effect until the repairs are complete, and the roadway can be safely reopened. TxDOT advises motorists to seek alternate routes and anticipate delays.
