Mayor Cantrell Will Shut Down All Bars in New Orleans for Mardi Gras
Last weekend huge crowds were seen in the French Quarter in New Orleans, and despite eased restrictions in the city, Mayor LaToya Cantrell told WVUE that "The city will take a hard look at what happened on Bourbon and pursue appropriate action wherever possible."
Mayor Cantrell has taken a look at the situation and has come up with a plan. Shut down all bars in New Orleans from February 12 through Mardi Gras day. She's also closing all liquor stores and banning all liquor sales in the French Quarter.
Tourists who have spent money to be in New Orleans for a good-time this Mardi Gras will be in for a surprise. Crowds will not be allowed to gather, bars and liquor stores will be closed and absolutely no liquor to be sold in the French Quarter.
Mayor Cantrell is serious about keeping COVID-19 out of the city of New Orleans during Mardi Gras. She's even closing some streets in the French Quarter to traffic. Cantrell has also ordered all NOPD to report for duty.
Governor John Bel Edwards, in full support of Mayor Cantrell, is also increasing the presence of Fire Marshalls and State Troopers in the City of New Orleans.
Those looking for booze, beads and bars in NOLA this Mardi Gras, won't find either.
