The state of Mississippi soon will be joining most of the country in selling lottery tickets.

The new Mississippi Lottery will begin selling scratch-off tickets on November 25. That's the Monday before Thanksgiving and a little earlier than expected.

Mississippi had been one of six states without a lottery, but lawmakers voted last year to introduce the lottery in the state. The games of chance will help generate money for highways.

The Mississippi Lottery Corporation said back in August that the Multi-State Lottery Association approved the state for Powerball and Mega Millions. Sales for those games are expected to begin sometime during the first quarter of 2020.
