According to, Americans were a curious bunch in 2018. We searched for words ALOT during the year, and the results of the biggest search trends of the year might surprise you. Just a little bit. The top ten are below, but check out the meaning behind the words here. Happy 2019, y'all!

  1. Dog Whistle - became popular when Florida gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis supposedly used a racial slur against his opponent Andrew Gillum
  2. Hegemonism - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un accused the United States of this in May
  3. Self-Made - in reference to Kylie Jenner on the cover of Forbes Magazine's issue about Women Billionaires
  4. Shithole - we have our President to thank for this one, when he allegedly referred to several African nations, and Haiti as the a fore mentioned word
  5. Footages - Cardi B and Nicki Minaj had a feud, and this word was thrown around on Twitter in the midst by Cardi
  6. Con Job - our President used these words in reference to the sexual abuse allegations against then Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh
  7. Laurel - or Yanny. Take your pick
  8. Stochastic Terrorism - in reference to physical attacks on journalists after negative comments were made in the media
  9. Amorality - this popped up when an anonymous Op-Ed appeared in September in the New York Times, allegedly from a member of the Trump administration
  10. Pissant - just to be clear, Tom Brady's 5 year old daughter is not a pissant, Alex Reimer
