Motorcyclist Dies In Crash South Of Maurice

A car and a motorcycle collided on Highway 167 near Placide Road Thursday afternoon taking the life of 51-year-old Carl Johnson of Abbeville.

State Police say Johnson drove his motorcycle into the left lane in front of a Dodge Charger carrying 26-year-old Elizabeth Trahan and 45-year-old Victor Guilamo of Lafayette.

Trooper Brooks David says this happened as the two vehicles were approaching a median. The Dodge struck the back of the motorcycle.

Johnson was thrown from his motorcycle, suffered severe injuries, was airlifted to a hospital and later died from his injuries.

Troopers are still investigating the crash and charges could be filed at a later date.
