Amidst increased Memorial Day weekend travel, Louisiana Troopers are partnering with Mississippi Highway Patrol in a new highway safety initiative called “Line to Line.” Trooper Dustin Dwight says the program is designed as a high-visibility.

“We are going to take Interstate 55 from the Laplace area all the way up to the Mississippi-Tennessee line, where during this increase of travel time frame, you should see a trooper along that roadway.”

More troopers on the road will hopefully reduce the number of crashes and help respond time. Trooper Dwight says the goal of the program is to keep motorists safe during increased travel times.

“Crashes, reports of impaired driving, reckless operation, and those types of things. This initiative is designed to target that.”

Trooper Dwight advises drivers to remain vigilant on the road during peak holiday traffic.

“Have a plan in place before you get behind the wheel and make sure you always avoid impairment, distractions, or anything that will take your mind off of the physical task of driving.”

“Line to Line” will begin on Friday, May 25th and last until Monday, May 28th.
