New Playoff Proposals Get Tabled At LHSAA Convention
Two proposals and a possible amendment to improve the LHSAA football playoffs were tabled on Friday at the LHSAA Meetings in Baton Rouge, according to sportsnola.com.
This was expected, though, as incoming LHSAA Executive Director Eddie Bonine has been asking schools to give him a year to come up with a proposal a bulk of the schools are pleased with. This essentially leaves the current split playoff system in for another year, though Bonine says they will work on a better solution.
Also of importance, Many principal Norman Booker III put forth proposals to split the boys basketball, girls basketball, baseball and softball championships, something Bonine asked him to table. But, once Booker's proposal was voted down in baseball, he withdrew similar proposals in the other sports.
Much was made of Bonine's leadership in this process. As a matter of fact, Catholic High-New Iberia head football coach Brent Indest took to twitter to express his thoughts.
Bonine officially takes over on March 1. Bonine says one of his first acts when he officially takes over in March is to form a committee that will help develop possible solutions.
In a related note, Luke Johnson with The Advocate reports a proposal to create a committee to evaluate the Executive Director passed overwhelmingly by a 259 to 9 vote.
