46-year-old Avery Charles Hudson of Opelousas died on Wednesday after his pickup truck - which is suspected of being used in two hit-and-run crashes earlier in the day -  ran off Louisiana Highway 103 and into Bayou Teche.

In a press release, Louisiana State Police spokesman Trooper Thomas Gossen says the incident happened near Cheramie Road in St. Landry Parish around 2:00 PM. Gossen says Hudson was traveling at a high rate of speed before running off the road, striking several trees, then landing into the water. The submerged vehicle was eventually found with the help of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office Dive Team.

The two hit-and-run injury crashes happened on US 190 right before the fatal crash.

Trooper Gossen says Hudson was restrained as the crash remains under investigation. Hudson's impairment is not known.
