One man is dead following a car chase and shootout in Shreveport. Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator says the suspect ran from deputies after they tried to pull him over for driving a stolen SUV.

Prator says this all started at about 4:30 in the afternoon in the 200 block of East 70th where the suspect allegedly shot a man in the leg and and stole a vehicle.

Then about an hour later, the Sheriff's Department got a call about a man on North Market threatening to shoot himself and others. When deputies arrived they found this man in that stolen SUV. He fled headed toward the town of Greenwood.

Sheriff Prator describes details about what happened during this incident.

Prator says the chase lasted for about one hour and involved as many as 30 police officers. They put out spike strips at several spots but the chase continued from Greenwood back into Shreveport, into the Cedar Grove neighborhood and through Queensborough. It finally ended at Jewella and Greenwood. The suspect had a gun and apparently pointed the gun at officers. 5 officers fired shots at the suspect, killing him.
