LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - Hyundai vehicle owners in Louisiana may need to check their fuel pumps after a recall notice from the company that impacts nearly 55,000 vehicles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the automotive company is recalling certain 2019-2023 models of Genesis G70, Veloster N, Elantra N, and Kona N because of problems with the fuel delivery system.

The company is moving to fix the issue quickly.

"To ensure the safety of its customers, Hyundai Motor North America and Genesis Motor North America has filed recall campaign 262/023G to address a condition involving the high-pressure fuel pump assemblies in certain Hyundai and Genesis vehicles produced for sale in the U.S. and Canada," Hyundai said in a statement to media outlets last week.

They also noted that "There are no confirmed crashes or injuries related to this condition in the U.S. or Canada."

According to the NHTSA, the flaw "could allow excess fuel to enter the fuel pump and the air and fuel mixture can result in a reduction or loss of motive power at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash."

Own One of the Vehicles Mentioned?

If you own one of the models of vehicles listed above, you should be receiving a notification letter by mid-September. Hyundai dealers will install an updated fuel control valve plunger design and revise engine ECM software logic as part of the flaw's fix.

The NHTSA says vehicle owners should watch for "MIL illumination, lack of power, rough idle or misfire," and that any of those are a sign of sure trouble.

If you want to know if your vehicle is included in the recall, the NHTSA has set up a recall page. Just go there and enter your vehicle’s VIN or license plate number.
