Details of House Bill 149 will be discussed Wednesday, April 29th, 2015 at a press conference scheduled by State Representative Austin Badon. Badon's bill seeks to amend state law dealing with sentencing for simple marijuana possession.

Of HB 149 Badon said,

I, in no way, condone the use of marijuana. But when the state locks people up, we have to pay for three meals a day, medical expenses, counseling and education. Sometimes it causes people to lose their jobs, it separates families and it takes people out of educational institutions.

Badon went on to say,

It's disingenuous when you have an ex-football player get nine years in jail for using potent narcotics to sexually assault women and we have a guy sent away for 13 years for having two marijuana cigarettes for his own use.

Badon's press conference will be at 9:30am on the garden deck area of the Louisiana House Chamber.
