Report: Saints Sign Kicker Wil Lutz To Biggest Deal For Kicker In NFL History
New Orleans Saints kicker Wil Lutz is coming off a 2018 season in which he made 28 of 30 field goals, giving him the most accurate single season field goal percentage in franchise history.
He entered this offseason as a restricted free agent, and will begin the new league year as the highest paid kicker in NFL history, according to ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett.
Earning the kicking job after a tryout in 2016 that coach Sean Payton called "the best kicking workout (he'd) ever seen", Lutz has been a staple at the position for New Orleans since, making 87 field goals in 100 attempts.
While exact details of Lutz's deal have not yet been reported, the highest paid kickers in the league currently make more than $4 million a year, with 49ers kicker Robbie Gould set to earn $4,971,000 in 2019.
Lutz, 24, isn't the only well paid specialist on the Saints roster.
Punter Thomas Morstead earns an average of $3.9 million a season, the most in the league at his position.
