In St. Landry Parish, criminal gangs in the area are recruiting children from local schools to avoid prosecution.

That's according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, and reports by The Daily Advertiser. 

Guidroz says his investigators are aware of the gangs' criminal activity in St. Landry Parish and has listed several ways to address the issue.

First, In an attempt to combat this phenomenon, Guidroz told the Acadiana-based newspaper that the department is trying to provide security officers at rural St. Landry school sites and utilize female officers to work with students on campus.

He also wants his staff to visit St. Landry Parish schools weekly.

Security on campus is also one of the highest priorities to curb gang activity in the area.
