Reusable Water Bottles Donated To Lafayette School System
Healthy Blue, a subsidiary of Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Louisiana, is announcing via press release, that they are donating four thousand water bottles to several schools in the Lafayette Parish Public School System.
Healthy Blue Chief Operating Officer Dexter Trivett says Healthy Blue has been working with school systems to help them figure out the best ways that they can assist school systems, teachers and students in unprecedented times.
Filtered water stations, an idea from teachers, have been installed at several schools.
There are several advantages to having water filling stations in the high schools and five middle schools including that plastic water bottles won't need to be recycled or simply thrown away to end up in a landfill.
Trivett adds,
We understand the immense pressure that is currently being placed on our local schools and families and the importance of their mission to serve our communities. We are proud to provide Lafayette Parish School System with resources to positively impact our member and local communities.
The water bottles will hold 28 ounces of fluid.
According to school system officials, the following schools have the new water filtration systems:
- Northside High School
- Ovey Comeaux High School
- Lafayette High School
- Scott Middle School
- Broussard Middle School
The money to pay for the filtration system in schools is coming from grant money allocated through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Lafayette Parish Public School Nutrition Program Coordinator Celeste Finney says,
The idea for these stations came from our teachers, and I'm grateful for all their help making this project a success.
