Saints Can’t Overcome Sluggish Start In Final Preseason Game
The New Orleans Saints were hoping to finish off the preseason with a victory but they had a sluggish start in the first half against the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins were able to hold off the Saints 2nd half push to seal a 16-13 victory.
The Saints weren't able to get anything going early especially in the 1st quarter. The Saints didn't score their first points until the 4:16 mark as Teddy Bridgewater threw a TD pass to Emmanuel Butler to give the Saints a 7-6 lead. That drive was the best drive of the night for the Saints as they went 93 yards and scored the touchdown. The Dolphins would retake the lead with 17 seconds remaining in the first half and they wouldn't let it go.
The Saints scored a touchdown on a Jacquizz Rodgers run to get them back in the game. They failed the 2 point conversion and they failed a 4th and goal with under a minute left in the game that would have given them the lead and most likely the win.
Taysom Hill finished with more passing yards than Bridgewater but Bridgewater had the lone TD pass. Hill finished 13 of 17 for 100 yards while Bridgewater finished 9 of 13 for 83 yards. Hill led the team in rushing as well with 35 rushing yards while Rodgers finished with 33 yards. Lil'Jordan Humphrey led the team in receiving yards with 43 yards on 1 catch.
The Saints finish the preseason 2-2 and they will look to setting their roster and looking to the regular season as they start the season on Monday Night football against the Houston Texans. That game will start a tough 4 to game stretch for the Saints.
