Saints Re-Sign Derek Newton & Cornelius Lucas
The New Orleans Saints added some depth to their ailing offensive line on Thursday, bringing back a couple of fairly familiar faces..
The team re-signed offensive tackles Derek Newton and Cornelius Lucas, both of whom were with the team briefly earlier this season, while releasing defensive back Josh Robinson and defensive lineman Mitchell Loewen.
The Saints have been hit by injuries to their offensive front as of late, with left tackle Terron Armstead (pectoral), right guard Larry Warford (knee) and reserve tackle Jermon Bushrod (hamstring) all missing practice on Thursday, while right tackle Ryan Ramczyk (shoulder) was limited.
The 31-year old Newton, who has appeared in 82 games during his career, was signed by the Saints on December 11, before being released on December 20.
The 27-year old Lucas, a native of New Orleans, was signed by New Orleans on December 20, prior to being released just two days later.
Neither player appeared in a game for the Saints this season.
Robinson appeared in 11 games for the Saints this season, primarily on special teams, while Loewen played in just one game.
