KENNER, La. (AP) — Authorities are searching a New Orleans suburb for signs of a gunman who fired at a police officer who tried to pull him over for speeding.

New Orleans news outlets report that it happened in the city of Kenner.

Police Chief Michael Glaser said an officer attempted to make the stop around 11 a.m. Monday. The driver led the officer on a brief car chase. Then he got out of the vehicle and ran to a group of apartment complexes. He fired one shot at the officer who was chasing him. The officer was not hurt.

Officers were searching the area Monday evening with tactical units and dogs. A helicopter also was used in the search.
