Seth Rogen Speaks to the Senate about Alzheimer’s
Funny man Seth Rogen recently testified before the Senate on the serious matter of Alzheimer's disease.
In the video above, we can see the star of movies such as 'Knocked Up,' 'This is the End' and 'The Guilt Trip' give his opening statement in front of the Senate. Rogen was present and speaking because he is an advocate of research for Alzheimer's disease.
It turns out that his mother-in-law has Alzheimer's, so he knows firsthand the effects of the disease and how it can affect one's family as well. After a few jokes, he dives into the meat of his speech and admits that his views on Alzheimer's was what everyone's probably represent: that it was a lot of forgetting where you are, forgetting what you're doing and being told certain things over and over again.
It wasn't until his mother-in-law's state got worse that he began seeing the truly devastating effects. This woman, who had been a teacher for over 30 years, began forgetting who she was, who her family was, how to speak and how to do certain things by herself. Rogen also began to see the stigma that surrounds the disease, which he says is akin to the stigma felt by those with cancer back in the day.
In order to help others who are suffering from Alzheimer's or have loved ones who are, Rogen started Hilarity for Charity, a program that spreads awareness for Alzheimer's through events and performances. Watch the video above and see how impassioned Rogen gets while still maintaining his charm and goofy laugh.
