There are still some major budget decisions that need to be made by Lafayette Parish School Board members before hiring and staffing decisions can be finalized.

The district's human resources director says the district is overstaffed by 83 teachers, and there was talk before of removing those positions which would save $5.3 million, but a decision on that was put on hold.

The district will also consider whether or not to cut seven assistant principal positions and two counselors which would save close to $1 million.

The board will meet again about budgetary issued on June 18th.

They are reviewing a variety of possible changes to the $256 million general fund.

Final adoption of budget is not scheduled until July 17th which will be almost three weeks after the new fiscal year starts.
