Members of the Lafayette Parish School Board plan to hold a special meeting at the Lafayette Parish School Board on Wednesday, May 19 in order to adopt the budget. That meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. The special meeting will preceded by a public hearing where people can give their thoughts on the budget. That meeting starts at 4:30 p.m.

The purpose of the special meeting according to a press release from the board, is to discuss the creation of three new schools in the parish. The three new schools that would be built would be for Prairie Elementary, Carencro Heights Elementary, and a brand new campus for Lafayette High School.

There will also be a special announcement made on Wednesday.

Following those to schedule events, the Lafayette Parish School Board will head over to the Lafayette High School stadium for a 5:30 p.m. announcement.

Lafayette Parish School Board member Justin Centanni told KPEL,

Approval of a budget that includes funding for the three new schools will be the culmination of years of hard work to get permanent buildings on these campuses. It's long overdue for these schools.

Should it rain, they will move the event inside of the boys gym. If that does happen, then a reminder that attendance will have to be limited because of the currently regulations at schools in reference to COVID. Bring your mask in the event that happens. If you are indoors at any Lafayette school you are still required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
