With the recent announcement from Governor John Bel Edwards that Louisiana would remain in "Phase 2" of the statewide lock down for at least 21 more days, the question on every parent and school age child is: What do we do now? In Bossier Parish, parents have the option of distance learning or sending our kids to class on August 20th. Right now, we are in the stay at home camp.
In an effort to make things safer, the Louisiana Department of Education and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP). has pledged to provide necessary, and almost impossible to find PPE for staff and students alike in order to slow the spread of COVID-19. According to WBRZ, that includes one million masks for school systems, non-public schools and early childhood centers.
Reportedly, the essential resources include:
-A minimum of three thermometers per school
-At least one reusable, cloth mask for each student and faculty member
-2,000 disposal masks per school
In order to comply with the strict Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) regulations released on July 14th, both students and staff must wear a face covering whenever possible. According to the updated policy, the official rule is:
"While inside the school facility, all adults and students in grades 3 through 12 must wear a face covering to the greatest extent possible and practical within the local community context."
