Steve Scalise Wins Re-election In Louisiana’s 1st District

Republican Whip Rep. Steve Scalise has won south Louisiana's 1st Congressional District.

Scalise defeated Democrats Vinny Mendoza and Lee Dugas, as well as Libertarian Jeff Sanford.

Scalise first won the seat in a special election in 2008, winning a runoff election over State Representative Timothy G. "Tim" Burns. He then followed that up by defeating Democrat Jim Harlan later that year in the regularly scheduled election, followed up by victories in 2010, 2012 and 2014.
