Sun Belt Goes 7-2 in Week Two
It was a solid week for the Sun Belt Conference.
The league went 1-1 against Power 5 opponents, 3-1 against other FBS opponents and 3-0 against the FCS. Here are some details.
APPALACHIAN STATE 56, CHARLOTTE 41--Darrynton Evans rushed for 234 yards and four total touchdowns to lead the Mountaineers to the win before 29,182 at Kidd-Brewer Stadium. Zac Thomas threw three touchdown passes.
FLORIDA STATE 45, ULM 44 (OT)--ULM roared back from a 24-7 deficit to force overtime, but a missed extra point after the Warhawk's touchdown was the difference in the heartbreaking loss. Caleb Evans threw for 241 yards and a pair of scores, while Josh Johnson rushed for 126 and a touchdown.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN 26, MAINE 18--The Eagles played without quarterback Shai Werts, but had three players rush for more than 100 yards each. The Eagles rolled up 395 yards on the ground. Tyler Bass had a career high four field goals in the contest.
COASTAL CAROLINA 12, KANSAS 7--C. J. Marable rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown and also scored on a 20 yard touchdown reception as the Chanticleers got their first ever win against a Power 5 team. Chandler Kryst had a pair of interceptions in the game as the defense held the Jayhawks under 300 yards in offense.
GEORGIA STATE 48, FURMAN 42--Georgia State is 2-0 for the first time in school history as Dan Ellington threw for five touchdowns in the win. He also rushed for 86 yards on 15 carries.
SOUTH ALABAMA 37, JACKSON STATE 15--Tra Minter rushed for 189 yards and a pair of touchdowns and the Jaguars set a school record with 413 yards rushing in the contest.
WYOMING 23, TEXAS STATE 14--Gresch Jensen threw for 394 yards, but Wyoming ralled in from a halftime deficit to get the win. Tyler Hall's 72 yard interception return gave the Cowboys the lead for good.
ARKANSAS STATE 43, UNLV 17--Blake Anderson returned to the Red Wolves after a leave of absence and Arkansas State responded with the resounding win in Vegas. The Red Wolves had 498 yards of offense in the rout.
LOUISIANA 35, LIBERTY 14--The Cajuns scored 28 unanswered points after falling behind 14-7. Levi Lewis threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, while two backs rushed for over 100 yards each. Ja'Marcus Bradley hauled in both touchdown passes for the Cajuns.
WEEK 3: Arkansas State at Georgia, Norfolk State at Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern at Minnesota, Memphis at South Alabama, Southern Miss at Troy, Georgia State at Western Michigan, Texas State at SMU, Texas Southern at Louisiana. ULM and Appalachian State have the week off.
