NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A suspect arrested by New Orleans police in connection with the killing of a Dillard University nursing student was previously tried for a 2006 quadruple murder.

Twenty-four-year-old Kevin Amison was booked into Orleans Parish Prison on Tuesday.

The victim was Kendall Raines. He was gunned down early Saturday. His brother had been driving when they stopped at a gas station. They were followed by a group of men who shot up their car, relatives said.

Amison's trial in 2006 ended with a deadlocked jury. District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro said he wanted to re-try the case but a witness would not cooperate and Amison had what some believed was a credible alibi. In addition to Amison, a second suspect in Raines' death is being sought.
