A national split in the United Methodist Church is having local impact.

A mom who was breastfeeding her four-month-old baby while waiting to see a doctor at Lubbock's University Medical Center (Texas) was escorted out by security for refusing to stop, leave or cover up.

Staff at the public hospital had also been reduced to about 500 before the takeover. Now, Stark says 700 are employed at UHC.

Lafayette General took over operations of the public hospital in June and renamed the facility University Hospital & Clinics.

The hospital also reopened its pediatric clinic in early December, earlier than anticipated due to preparations by staff and clinic physicians.

Management of the university hospitals in Lafayette, New Orleans, Houma and Lake Charles is slated to be turned over to private control next week even though some of the financial details are not wrapped up.
