The state is now getting involved in Vermilion Parish's battle with saltwater intrusion. Yesterday, KPEL reported the Vermilion Parish Police Jury declared a state of emergency because of the saltwater's impact on the parish's economy.

High levels of saltwater intrusion are causing the Vermillion Parish Police Jury to declare a state of emergency. Back in October, a barge slammed into a flow control structure designed to prevent such intrusion into the Mermentau Basin.
