The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says tomorrow they will begin the process of removing and replacing the Highway 35 bridge over Sledge Canal.

The road work will be between Sledge Canal between South Lemaire Avenue and Highway 708 in Vermilion Parish.

DOTD says through traffic will not be allowed during the construction.

The work is expected to take about 8 months, weather permitting.

The DOTD detour consists of Louisiana Highway 35 to Lemaire Avenue to Louisiana Highway 14 to Louisiana Highway 35.

This bridge is the second of three bridges that will be replaced as part of the Kaplan Bridge replacement project.

The $2.6 million project will replace three timber bridges with concrete span bridges along Louisiana Highway 35 between Louisiana Highway 14 and Louisiana Highway 82.

Crews will replace the bridge approaches as well as install new guardrail and drainage pipe.
