The Cajuns Defense Stifles Bobcats While Offense Rolls In Win
The first true road test of the year for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns as they took down the Ohio Bobcats 45-25 on Saturday to garner their third win of the season.
Early on in this one Louisiana had a couple of opportunities to score and had two plays called back due to penalties. The first one was when Eric Garror returned a punt to the house but a block in the back call negated that.
However, they got a big special teams play when they were forced to punt as Jerome Buckner tried to chase down a bouncing punt near the goalline, touched the ball and T.J. Wisham picked it up. From there Elijah Mitchell took care of business with a two-yard touchdown.
After that a couple of drives later they had a Levi Lewis touchdown pass called back when Bam Jackson pushed off a defender that would result in an offensive pass interference.
Penalties were big for Louisiana in the first half as they committed six penalties for 56 yards. Altogether they ended up committing 16 penalties for 161 yards.
The second half would be a much different story than the first, it seemed like both of these teams got a little bit more comfortable and were able to open things up a bit.
The Cajuns offense really came alive in the second half as they put up 35 points, Elijah Mitchell led the way with three touchdowns on the ground and 143 yards. His running mate Trey Ragas was also a factor in this one with 15 carries for 129 yards and a score himself. Simply put, the ground game was great and a lot of credit has to go to the scheme and the offensive line.
The defense was ultra-impressive as well, they were able to not only contain but stifle the Bobcats best weapon in quarterback Nathon Rourke. They held him to just nine carries for 37 yards and 18/38 for 277 yards passing with one touchdown, three interceptions and a fumble.
With the win, the Cajuns improve to 3-1 with their third straight win and will open up Sun Belt Conference play at Georgia Southern next Saturday at 5 p.m.
