Legislation extending tax cuts and unemployment benefits to millions of  Americans is now law. President Barack Obama sealed with his signature legislation that prevents a January 1st income increase for thousands of Louisianans. The measure, signed yesterday, also renews jobless benefits and cuts Social Security taxes. Quitman Republican Congressman Rodney Alexander supported the legislation, even though he says the tax relief package could have been better. Alexander says Americans would have seen a three-point-eight trillion dollar tax increase at the start of the new year,  if  they didn't pass this legislation. Metairie Republican Congressman Steve Scalise says next year they'll look to cut federal spending, as the Republicans will gain control of the House. Scalise says they hope to make the tax cuts permanent when a new Congress convenes next year.
