UL’s Hayden Cantrelle Named Preseason All-American
Hayden Cantrell, a local product and member of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun baseball team, is getting a lot of well-deserved preseason recognition.
A shortstop who will be entering his junior season in 2020, Cantrelle was recently named a third-team Preseason All-American by Perfect Game.
This was the third big preseason accolade for Cantrelle, who last month was listed by D1 Baseball as one of the top 150 college prospects for 2020.
Cantrelle is at #38 on that list.
Finally, earlier in December, MLB Pipeline listed Cantrelle as one of the top 60 prospects for the June 2020 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
Cantrell was listed at #55 in those rankings.
A first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection in 2019 for Louisiana, Cantrelle hit .309 as a sophomore, to go along with 9 home runs, 31 runs batted in, and 28 stolen bases.
Cantrelle also finished-up play in the Cape Cod Baseball League, arguably the premier collegiate league in America, finishing in the top ten of the league in multiple categories last summer.
A former prep star at Teurlings Catholic, Cantrelle finished in tied for 8th in batting average (.315), 8th in walks (21), third in runs scored (29), and second in stolen bases (19).
Cantrelle, who played for the Falmouth Commodores, also hit three homers, while driving in 14 runs over 36 games.
