UPDATE: Citizens Insurance Offers To Settle Dispute
The state's insurer of last resort is offering to settle the case once and for all.
Citizens Insurance had been ordered to pay $93-million for taking too long to handle insurance claims from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The insurance group is now offering to settle the dispute for up to $80-million. The group says only $25-million of that amount can be used for attorneys' fees.
A U.S. Supreme Court appeal is still a possibility.
