Glenn Jacobs, WWE Wrestler ‘Kane,’ Running For Mayor In Tennessee [VIDEO]
His hat is officially "in the ring."
Glenn Jacobs, better known as WWE superstar Kane, has announced he is running for mayor of Knox County Tennessee.
I’ve lived in East Tennessee for over 20 years at this point. It’s just a great place. I love it here. My family loves it here, and I just want to have as much positive impact on things as I possibly can.
Jacobs made the announcement at Sweet Pea's BBQ, promising to keep taxes low and striving to make Knox County a "place everyone can be proud of."
Because of his position with WWE, Jacobs says he has traveled the world with the opportunity to live anywhere, but East Tennessee has always been the place he calls home. It's also the place he met his wife, Crystal, who says Jacobs is the man for the job.
When we met twenty-some years ago, the two things that attracted me to him were his laugh and his heart. To be a big man, he has a big heart. But not only is he a big man, with a big heart and a wonderful laugh, he’s an extremely intelligent man and he constantly studies on his own, looking at how to help and solve things and fix problems in our community.
Jacobs says portraying WWE's Kane, the younger brother of The Undertaker, has actually given him a hand up in politics
I learned that great leaders don’t stand behind and crack a whip and drive people on. They get out in front, they have a vision, and the show people how it benefits them and pull them along.
This is definitely not the first time a sports entertainment figure has shifted into a political role, as one of the most popular wrestler-turned-politicians, Jesse "The Body" Ventura, held the position of governor in Minnesota back in the 90s.
Jacobs will be running against Knox County Commissioner Bob Thomas and Knox County Sheriff Jimmy "J.J." Jones.
