LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — The Diocese of Lafayette will install its newest leader in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette next month, when Basile native The Rev. J. Douglas Deshotel is formally named the diocese's seventh bishop.

The Advocate reports the April 15 ceremony will be at 2 p.m. and will be live streamed and accessible at www.ustream.tv/channel/catholic-diocese-of-lafayette-la . Only those who are formally invited to the bishop's installation will be allowed inside the cathedral.

Seating for those without invitations will be available next door in the Cathedral Carmel Elementary School gymnasium. Screens will be set up to view the live stream and communion will be offered.

The 64-year-old Deshotel currently is an auxiliary bishop at the Diocese of Dallas. He is replacing Bishop Michael Jarrell, who is retiring.
