The Lafayette Consolidated Government will unveil their new University of Louisiana themed buses today. The buses feature a custom paint job that incorporates the University of Louisiana into the current "Fueled By Nature" theme.

The two newest CNG buses being unveiled were purchased at a cost of $465,000 from the Gillig Corporation using Federal Transit Administration funds provided to Lafayette through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  No LCG matching funds were needed to procure these new buses.

City-Parish President Joey Durel stopped by "Mornings with Ken and Bernie" for his "Lafayette Live" segment to relay his excitement for the new buses.

One of the things we have to do is, as we see the dwindling monies available to do things that people expect government, we've got to find more and more ways to collaborate, to stretch the dollar, and to make things work more efficiently. We've been working with UL to find ways to use our buses to help their students as well as to make our buses more useful.

The two UL themed buses will soon be joined by 12 additional CNG buses recently purchased from Georgia.
