The social media world has gotten a little bit bigger and now includes an upstart that recently got attention as being the most downloaded social media app in the iTunes store.  That upstart is Pheed.

But what does this mean for you?  Do you need to get this new outlet and use it?  Jaci Russo stopped by the Afternoon Drive Home and walked us through this new and different social media platform.

When it comes to social media, many of these take time to gain acceptance in the public eye, according to Russo.  She said,

We introduced Pinterest...a good 14 months before it had any sort of critical mass following.  I think Pheed may end up being the same thing.  We talked about Google+ a year before it started really getting people talking and it still hasn't gained critical mass enough for us to say 'Your business has to be on there, or it's dead.'  So, we're going to keep watching Pheed.

Among some of the features of Pheed are

  • Copyright – Pheed will watermark the images you upload therefore protecting them from other people using them
  • Revenue – Users can sell their content through the app which might appeal to the creative class
  • Character Counts – Rather than 140 characters like Twitter, Pheed allows for 420
  • Media Type – Easy sort by types of uploads – photos, videos, audio, text, etc.

Russo said that these do give it an advantage on some of the currently accepted forms of social media.  Russo said,

The interface is hands down better than the others.
