On Saturday evening around 6 p.m, suspect Devin Benjamin turned himself into law enforcement authorities without incident.

Police say Benjamin was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

The investigation remains ongoing. Around 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning, Lafayette Police were called out to the 100 block of West Grant Street about a shooting.

Witnesses told police the suspect and the victim were involved in a crash on a private parking lot.

After the crash, the two men got out of their cars, and they started arguing, at which time the suspect allegedly produced a handgun and shot the victim in the lower back.

Witnesses say the suspect fled the area before police got to the scene.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Benjamin was arrested on a charge of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.
