Like everyone else, you work very hard for the things you have acquired and would like to keep them. Reader's Digest recently wrote an article detailing how burglars go to our secret hiding spots for valuables first. We must get more creative.

If you have jewelry, cash, and other valuables that you want to keep safe, you probably think of places to stash them where no one can access them. If you have a giant safe, then obviously, you would place them in there for safekeeping. But, most homes are not equipped with those types of safes.

Unfortunately, the great hiding places we have used over the years for our precious items have become too obvious to burglars. It's human nature to try to keep our items, but hiding them in the freezer likely won't work anymore.

Don't Hide Things Under Your Mattress

It's too obvious to someone trying to steal from you that you might consider stashing something like cash under your mattress. This is a habit many people have had over the years, but since the crooks know, we should stop doing it. It's the first place they look.

A Portable Safe Likely Will Be Taken

Portable safes are great for holding important documents and your money, but the problem is that they are portable. A burglar is just going to take the portable safe if it isn't heavy.

The Medicine Cabinet Is Searched By Burglars

Burglars Will Search Your Freezer

If you hide something in your freezer, you will need to make it harder for a burglar to want to look at that item. Just taking something valuable and putting it at the back of the freezer isn't going to deter anyone.

Desk Drawers Will Be Searched

Most of us keep important papers with valuable information in our desk drawers, so we bought the desk in the first place. However, your passports and account information will be vulnerable as burglars search the drawers.

Flower Vases Are For Flowers, Not Valuables

Many people have thought hiding something important in a vase is a good idea, but burglars know we do this. If you're going to hide something, you'll have to find a better spot.
