12-Year-Old La. Girl Dies After Shooting

RIVER RIDGE, La. (AP) — A 12-year-old girl who was shot at her River Ridge home last month by another child has died.

The Jefferson Parish sheriff's office says Karin Brown died late Tuesday at Ochsner Medical Center.

Investigators say a 15-year-old boy had found a pistol behind an apartment complex and was showing it off when an 11-year-old girl grabbed the weapon. A single shot struck the victim in the head.

Sheriff's spokesman John Fortunato told The Times-Picayune that the 11-year-old girl will be booked with negligent homicide, while the boy will be booked with being a principal to negligent homicide.

Their names were not released because of their ages.
