You might have read the headline and thought, what kind of crazy story is this? "A Couple Finds a Genie's Lamp in Texas and Gets 3 Wishes", this has to be fake! But, you would be wrong.
This is a true story of a contest and a couple that knew they were on to something when they started searching Dallas for the Lamp.
So let's step back a moment and begin this start where all stories start, at the beginning.
The company that put together this contest is called Treasure Game$ according to KRQE.
It's a really interesting idea. The company explained that there was a lamp out there somewhere, and the person who could find it would win a prize of $1 million or 3 wishes worth $1.2 million. For a subscription fee, you could get clues to the location fo the genie's lamp.
According to the company's website, this was the first of other games to come,
'WISH LAMP$' is the first game we are releasing. We have developed more original and fun treasure-hunting games that will soon follow. We will be starting in the US and then quickly rolling out our games around the world.
Dirk Gibson, who founded the company, says as he is ending his work life, he wanted to find a way to help out other people. He wants to change lives.
And he has changed the lives of Ron Novak and Michelle Bush. They followed the clues and were able to find the lamp in Dallas. They say they even stayed an extra day in the city because they knew they were hot on the trail adding that they were sure one of the clues tied into a Seinfeld episode.
The couple opted for the three wishes, and part of the contest is that if you take the 3 wishes option, you have to use one of the wishes to do good in the world. Novak and Bush did just that. Novak says there was a time in his life when he was homeless so for his wish, he granted that money to the charity that helped him get his life back together.
Novak had this to say,
For me, it was the biggest gift to be able to give them money for this because I used to be a taker. I just took, and I needed help and wanted help.
They also got a Sprinter van because they have four dogs! With their final wish, the couple bought a motel in their hometown!
Dirk Gibson says there will be future contests coming soon. Novak and Bush say they plan to have a contest of their own that will involve something worth $5,000.
