Republican candidate for governor Dr. Ralph Abraham says he was supposed to speak at an event to celebrate the groundbreaking of infrastructure improvements at Barksdale Air Force Base...until Governor John Bel Edwards "refused to let me speak."

U.S. Rep. Abraham, a member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, says he was selected by the Louisiana Congressional Delegation to speak on their behalf for "the team effort" that was used to secure funding for the I-20/I-220 project.

"I was proud to lead this fight with Mike Johnson and the rest of the Louisiana delegation," says Abraham. "I was looking forward to saying this today at the Air Force Base."

But, Abraham says "when Governor Edwards found that I was asked to represent the Louisiana congressional delegation, he refused to let me speak. I can't tell you why he would do that. It's a level of petty I can't understand."

“Pushing for meaningful investments in our infrastructure is crucial if we want to continue to drive our economy forward,” said Edwards, who spoke at the event on Wednesday, according to Louisiana Radio Network.

“This is a huge step forward. It also allows Barksdale to proceed with planned improvements and development on the base and expansion of there operations.”

WATCH Abraham call out Edwards BELOW:

Transcript of video:

Ralph Abraham: I want to say how happy I am that we're breaking ground on the Barksdale Air Force Base infrastructure project.

It's a big deal for the base, the men and women that serve there, and the entire region.

I was proud to lead this fight with Mike Johnson and the rest of the Louisiana delegation. I was looking forward to saying this today at the Air Force Base.

But unfortunately, when Governor Edwards found that I was asked to represent the Louisiana congressional delegation, he refused to let me speak.

I can't tell you why he would do that. It's a level of petty I can't understand.

I would have been happy to talk to him about it yesterday at the presidential visit, if he had actually shown up.

Again, this was a team effort with the entire Louisiana congressional delegation. It's a big win.
