Another National Honor for UL Lafayette

There are a lot of things to love about the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Beautiful campus, great sports programs, stellar academic opportunities. And of course, where else can see actual alligators and swans when you are walking to class? It's a pretty cool place to get an education, and now we can add another accolade to the many things that make it a fantastic university.

Recently UL Lafayette was added to a list of 38 universities around the US that have been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as encouraging biking and rider safety on campus. The University has earned a bronze award for 2020-2024 as part of the league’s Bicycle Friendly University program, which they also received in 2015.

According to a press release, League president Bill Nesper stated that bike-friendly campuses are “where people can safely and easily get around by bike, thereby improving the well-being of their community by enabling access to sustainable transportation options." Gretchen LaCombe Vanicor, director of the University's Office of Sustainability says UL has implemented many projects throughout the years to make the campus more bicycle-friendly for students. Some of those include the installation or extension of bike lanes through campus, more bike racks, lockers and shelters for riders, and free workshops about bike safety, skills, and maintenance. The University has also created a total of 2,771 parking spaces for bicycles on campus, which is pretty impressive if you ask me! Congrats to the University, and thanks for making us proud once again.
