This Memorial Day Weekend almost everyone in Texas will be enjoying a picnic. It doesn't matter whether you are soaking sun at Galveston, reeling in a big one on South Padre, or maybe just relaxing in the shade at one of Texas' many wonderful state parks, long weekends were made for picnics.

And for a lot of us in Texas that means getting the proper picnic supplies. A recent entrant into the highly contested and competitive Texas grocery market is Aldi. Aldi is a German multinational family-owned discount supermarket chain. The first Aldi stores to open in the United States welcomed customers in 1976. The chain opened its first locations in Texas in 2010 and there are plans for more.

The Food and Drug Administration has announced a food recall that affects Aldi customers in the Gulf South. This recall also affects Aldi shoppers who have visited stores in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Vermont.

Oddly enough, the recall isn't about an issue with the product, the issue is in the product's labeling which could lead to an issue caused by the food product. The item in question is a popular item on many Memorial Day picnic menus, it's pasta salad.

The FDA has announced a recall of pasta salad manufactured by Reser's Fine Foods. The recall is voluntary because the product's label does not include an allergen callout for wheat. Look closely at the pictures above. Do you see the front panel is labeled for Macaroni Salad but the bottom label is for Coleslaw? That's where the issue lies.

The product in question is sold as Aldi Deli Macaroni Salad. The package being recalled is a 32-ounce size that includes a "Use By" date of June 3, 2024. If you purchased this product and have concerns about the allergen labeling issue you may return the product to your local Aldi store for a full refund. If you don't plan on pursuing a refund it is suggested that you discard the product.

Reser's Fine Foods has set up a consumer information line. If you have questions you may dial 888-223-2127.
