A 10-month-old baby girl has tragically passed away after being left in a hot car on Tuesday (August 13), according to Jennings Police Chief Danny Semmes. News 15 reports that the infant, who was hospitalized in critical condition, succumbed to her injuries late Wednesday night.

The heartbreaking incident occurred when the baby was accidentally left in a vehicle outside a residence in Jennings. Chief Semmes stated that the baby was discovered and rushed to the hospital around 4 p.m. on Tuesday after being in the car for approximately an hour and a half. Despite medical efforts, the child could not recover from the severe heat exposure and died around 11 p.m. the following day.

According to News 15, temperatures in Jennings reached between 92 and 93 degrees, with a heat index soaring to a sweltering 106 degrees on the day of the incident. These extreme conditions made the inside of the car dangerously hot, leading to the tragic outcome.

Chief Semmes mentioned that the mother told investigators she had been unexpectedly called into work and, in the rush, inadvertently left her daughter in the vehicle.

The case has now been forwarded to the district attorney’s office, where a decision will be made regarding possible charges. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather details.
