Beau Beaullieu Responds To Critics Following House Speaker Vote
Newly-elected State Rep. Beau Beaullieu was one of several House Republicans who broke from the party to vote for Rep. Clay Schexnayder for Speaker. Schexnayder, with the support of Democrats and the Governor, went on to win the seat over Rep. Sherman Mack. Beaullieu got his first taste of backlash from some voters who say his vote did not fall in line with their conservative values.
One thing of note is that Beaullieu said he was guaranteed that Republicans would chair key committees including the Civil Law Committee, House and Governmental Affairs Committee, Appropriations Committee and the Ways and Means Committee. Beaullieu said both Schexnayder and Mack made deals with Democrats for some leadership positions. This is something Rep. Stuart Bishop said in an interview earlier this week on KPEL.
This was the first vote Beaullieu cast since his election in November. He appeared on KPEL's Acadiana's Morning News with Rob Kirkpatrick and Bernadette Lee.
