Billy Graham To Be Buried in Coffin Made By Angola Inmates
Rev. Billy Graham will be buried in a casket made by inmates at Angola State Prison.
Graham passed away Wednesday morning February 21, 2018 at his home in North Carolina. He was 99 years old.
Why a coffin from Angola? His son, evangelist Franklin Graham, requested the handmade coffins for his parents after seeing them during a visit to the Louisiana prison over a decade ago.
Inmate Richard Liggett, who was serving time for murder, along with a team of workers created coffins for inmates who died at Angola and Franklin requested the group make some for his family.
Billy Graham's wife, Ruth, was buried in a coffin made from Angola after her death in 2007. Liggett died that same year and was buried in one of the coffins he made.
Billy Graham will be laid to rest at the Billy Graham Museum and Library in Charlotte.
A motorcade will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2018 in Asheville, North Carolina. Graham will lie in repose from February 26-27 inside the Graham Family Homeplace on the Billy Graham Library grounds. His funeral will be held March 2, 2018 on those same grounds.
