Vitalant is one of the groups that work to get people to donate the gift of life by donating blood, and this week, the work will be held on the campus.

There is a Vitalant blood drive that will happen today, Monday, February 3, and tomorrow, February 4.

The blood drive will be happening on the campus of UL right in front of the Dupre' Library and in the area between Dupre' Libary and Montgomery Hall.

Blood donations end of saving lives and giving much needed health components to those who are sick or injured.

If you donate blood on the UL campus today or tomorrow, you will be rewarded with the following:

  • Each donor will get a coupon for a Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich or a pack of Chicken Nuggets.
  • Each donor will get a pass for one free game of bowling from Acadiana Lanes.
  • Each donor will get a 'Together We Can Do Amazing' t-shirt as long as supplies hold out.

When you donate a pint of blood, you could potentially be saving up to three lives just with that one donation.

Also, with an aging population of donors, Vitalant's Mitzi Breaux tells Kpel the are looking for a new crop of donors who will become regulars at giving blood.

According to their research, Breaux says that 60 percent of people who donate blood currently are over the age of 40, and that the age of most of the regular donors are above 50 years of age.

She says, "We literally need new blood".

So whether you're 18 or 55, you have a chance to donate blood on the campus of UL today and tomorrow.

Breaux adds,

Blood donations are a gift of life, the decision to donate blood has profound effects on patients and the community and each time you can save three lives.

If you're planning to try and go out to donate blood on campus, each of the bloods drives today and tomorrow will start at 9 o'clock in the morning and wrap up at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
