Blood drives have been planned to aid two surviving victims of a December 28th plane crash in Lafayette. One of those victims was on board the ill-fated aircraft, the other victim was injured while on the ground.

Wade Berzas was the sole surviving passenger from the crash. A benefit blood drive in his name is being held on January 25th, that' s this Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Mamou. The blood drive will take place from 8 am until 1 pm that day.

Meanwhile,  a blood drive for Danielle Truxillo Britt, the young mother who was injured on the ground has been planned for February 1st. That blood drive will take place at Andy's Jewelry Saturday, February 1st from 10 am until 1 pm. Andy's Jewelry is located on Feu Follet Road in Lafayette.

As a reminder, if you can't donate blood on these specific days you can still donate in the name of either Mr. Berzas or Mrs. Britt at your convenience. Simply mention the names when you go to donate. The drive for Mr. Berzas is being administered through Our Lady of Lourdes Blood Center. The drive for Mrs. Britt is being administered through Vitalant.

By the way, blood supplies across Acadiana are dangerously low at this time. In many cases, the blood supply is barely keeping pace with the daily need. If you are able to roll up your sleeve and donate at any of the blood center locations across Acadiana, please do so.
