U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Louisiana, wrote a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry urging the government to assist efforts to find seven individuals missing in the South Pacific since early June.

"I am pushing the United States State Department to assist this effort including using any search and rescue assets available in the area, be it satellite imaging or military resources," Boustany wrote.

The New Zealand Herald reported new satellite images of a boat drifting could be the missing Niña, but New Zealand had already called off search efforts for the schooner carrying student Danielle Wright and six others that went missing in June.
